Our People
What makes the ACC National Capital Region Leadership Academy unique is our emphasis on the way that leadership skills come into play in the in-house environment and our focus on improving every in-house counsel’s ability to lead from any seat, making them more effective in any current or futures roles they may be asked to take on in your organization. The Academy turns great in-house lawyers into great leaders.
At each session, the Faculty – nationally recognized in the leadership field – draw on the experiences of and input from one or two members of the Board of Advisors, prominent chief legal officers with a strong commitment to professional development, to deliver practical take-aways and insights into how in-house counsel function as leaders.
Academy Founders Recognized at 2020 Corporate Counsel Awards
We celebrate the Chapter Service Award recognition of the co-founders, inaugural Co-Chairs and
Steering Committee of the ACC NCR Leadership Academy and salute:
- Evan Stolove and Rob Falk for their vision and initial leadership in the project launch;
- Inaugural Steering Committee Co-Chairs Constantine Athanas and Mona Mahoney;
- Original Steering Committee members Cindy Boyle, Margaret Hackbarth, Ken Pollack, Zack Stewart, Maria Votsch,
Luise Welby, and Nichole Williams-Miller, who stayed with the project all these years; and - The many others who participated at any point in time in the development and execution of the Academy program.
We are so grateful for the dedication and commitment of these persons to our hugely successful Leadership Academy, which now has a circle of 90 Academy Alumni and 33 Class of 2021 Fellows starting their leadership journey. Many of these Alumni have gone on to leadership roles in ACC NCR including seats on the chapter’s Board of Directors and co-chair/lead roles with CLE programming forums and/or engagement, leadership and community committees and forums. Notably, many have been promoted or transitioned to a new role in their organizations after completing the Academy – and some even have become CLOs/GCs.
The Leadership Academy was two-and-a-half years in development and is entering its fourth year of operation. The contributions of the ACC NCR volunteers, our esteemed Faculty and Board of Advisors, Senior Director Ilene Reid and master facilitator, Robert Calabrese, have built and continue to create a lasting exponential impact on the ongoing development of current and future leaders of ACC NCR, our regional business community in the National Capital Region, and our global in-house community.
